Detailed editing
involves the use of specialist tools for improving timing, pitch etc. and removing clicks and unwanted noises from tracks. These processes are essential to perfecting your end recording and how much is needed depends on the original recording itself; ( ie. how your instrument is set up, does it play in tune, are the strings dead, are your drum heads knackered, is your vocal pitch ok?) It is therefore important to address any issues regarding your instrument / voice that might affect your recording performance and therefore save yourself time and money in the studio. If a track includes drums/percussion, these should be edited first, as the tempo / feel / timing will ultimately affect the rest of the performances on the track. It is not unusual to spend a whole day on one drum track alone so again, preparation is the key.
We tend to mix tracks as they progress . Nine times out of ten this proves to be a lot of time saved on the final mix as you, the performer, are normally present at this stage and therefore we progressively build a mutual understanding of the sound you wish to achieve.
